THE EPICUREAN WINE TOUR – YARRA VALLEY

Dancing Kangaroos has a boutique wineries focus rather than high-end. They are also in support of small and family-owned businesses. On the Epicurean tour, we explored the Yarra Floor in the south of the Yarra Valley.

From the start, our guide Johnston was extremely energetic and kept the momentum going throughout the day. I really liked that he encouraged photography and willingly offers to take photos (even on a fake unicorn) without me having to ask. Our guide also provided fun facts during the car ride and kept music playing as well to make for an upbeat atmosphere.

#1 stop
Helen & Joey – Owned by a retired Chinese couple and indeed a small business, which has only been open to the public for 2.5 years. The vineyard had about 180 of 200 acres on vine.

Favorite: Late Harvest dessert wine

#2 Punt Road Wines

Another brief tasting of various wines at a more historical vineyard.

#3. St. Hubert’s.

I enjoyed the presentation here because there was a short description of flavor profile here, which was simple to follow. The sommelier seemed more keen to interact also.

#4 Yarra Valley Dairy
Established for 22 years. Homemade goat and cow cheese tastings. If you’re a major cheese fan like me, you will be delighted by the soft, fresh creamy cheeses.

Bring on the lunch at Vintage & Co with a delicious Italian spread. Lunch was served in a family-style form of sharing platters. The food selection consisted of seafood & meat lover’s pizza, vegetable risotto, fries with aioli sauce, and salad. The group favorites were definitely the risotto and pizzas.

#5 – Corniola winery – An Italian Australian retired couple owns this winery after decades of running restaurants in Lygon Street, Melbourne. The Italian roots really come through with their wine selection. I personally enjoyed their Sweet Red & Moscato wines.

#6 The last stop offers a change from wine tastings with an option pay to order beer or cider. A paddle tasting of 4 ciders is discounted to $12.

This Yarra Valley tour was fun-loving, energetic, and had good vibes. If you are looking for a carefree day at the Yarra Valley and prefer a more easy-going wine introduction, this is a great option.
