SUMMER IN NEW YORK CITY: A PHOTOGRAPHER’S DREAM

It’s not a surprise that the most iconic landmarks in New York City represent a gothic architecture style. Of course, there is the standard photograph shots of the Empire State Building and Times Square, but here are four other spots to keep in mind. The summertime is ideal mostly late in the season and then you experience much less humidity, which makes photography more enjoyable than usual. Below, here I am going to take you through my photography journey in New York City from a cloudy (then later blue) afternoon to sunset and hopefully this inspire your next visit to the Big Apple!

NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

The library is situated close to Grand Central Station and off of 42nd Street, which happened to be my point of arrival. The New York Public Library is considered to be one of the greatest libraries in the world and the largest apparently in the United States. It’s a must see for first timers in New York City and a longstanding staple of architecture dating back to 1895.

HIGH LINE PARK

If you want to reach this location with minimal people, then you no doubt need to arrive when it opens because the locals will rush in as fast as the tourists. This is a public park built on an unused structure that was actually a former freight railroad track back in the early 1900s. Super cool, right? As you twist and turn through the buildings nearby the Westside Highway, you will find numerous opportunities to get eye-level with the surrounding architecture.

FLAT IRON (BUILDING) DISTRICT

Surely, you would have seen this remarkable Flat Iron building taken center stage in center Manhattan. What is super cool about this building is actually the central positioning of it which s surrounding by traffic flowing on either side. There are so many angles to photograph this building because it’s in the middle of an intersection and you’ll also find concrete blocks to stand on for an elevated perspective.

BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Somehow, in all my years as a New Yorker, I never made it to the Brooklyn Bridge and only recently discovered how much of a insanely popular it has become. It’s a long trek from 42nd Street, but this is where I ended my photography route ultimately. I gather this spot is busy all hours of the day and night, but without planning for it I happened to arrive close to sunset. Get used to herds of people on this bridge and don’t forget the bicyclists!
